Challenges
Before working with Merito, Stellantis faced challenges with test management and traceability between its development and testing teams. The company needed to synchronize 10 projects between Jira and SpiraTest to improve communication, defect tracking, and test coverage.
The main challenges included:
- Limited traceability between testing and development teams, creating risks that bugs could reach production and that test cases weren't consistently updated or documented
- Disconnected tooling and lack of integration between Jira and SpiraTest, leading to manual work and inconsistent reporting
- Complex and inconsistent Jira setup across 10 projects, each using its own project template, which led to confusion and inefficient maintenance
- Limited understanding of how Jira and SpiraTest could work together, which caused delays and rework during implementation
- Time wasted due to changing Jira configuration mid-project, breaking previously completed integration work
Solution
To address these challenges, Merito worked closely with Stellantis to design and implement a custom test management solution using SpiraTest. The team took several key steps:
- Aligning Jira and SpiraTest configurations by working with Stellantis' Jira administrators to ensure a smooth connection between platforms
- Rationalizing and consolidating 107 custom Jira fields into a more manageable structure aligned with SpiraTest, enhancing traceability and reducing long-term maintenance
- Overcoming system limitations by finding a workaround to synchronize Jira tasks with SpiraTest, even though this feature was not included in the standard licensing
- Educating on capabilities of both Jira and SpiraTest allowing them to better understand their environment and make more informed decisions moving forward
- Adapting to shifting requirements and timelines by maintaining open communication, including daily check-ins to keep the projects on track
