In-place governance
Retention, classification, and audit apply to Microsoft content where it lives. Users do not migrate or change their workflows.
OpenText • Content services
Content Cloud for Microsoft 365 applies Content Management retention, classification, and audit to Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, and Office without changing how users work. Merito layers OpenText governance on top of Microsoft 365 where Purview falls short.
Merito sells OpenText Content Cloud for Microsoft 365 and delivers governed content services across Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, and Office with OpenText retention policies applied to Microsoft content in place.
What it is
OpenText Content Cloud for Microsoft 365 is the integration that applies Content Management governance (retention schedules, classification, legal hold, audit trail) to content created in Microsoft 365 without requiring users to change how they work. Teams chats, SharePoint documents, Outlook email, and Office files are classified and retained per customer policy while remaining in the Microsoft UIs users already use.
The product fills the gap most Microsoft 365 customers hit at scale and Microsoft's native retention is useful but not sufficient for complex regulatory programs, and migrating all Microsoft content to a separate ECM creates user friction. Content Cloud for Microsoft 365 keeps content in place and applies deeper governance through integration.
Implementation is primarily classification and retention design. What does each content type need to retain, who can access it, what triggers disposition, and how does evidence land for audit. Merito's engagements lead with classification policy before touching configuration.

Merito sells OpenText Content Cloud for Microsoft 365 and delivers classification policy design, retention alignment, and Microsoft 365 integration that layers OpenText governance depth on top of Purview.
Merito point of view
Merito has seen customers stretch Microsoft Purview past its useful range and find classification policy, legal hold, and retention behavior falling short of regulatory expectations. Content Cloud for Microsoft 365 could be the right answer for customers whose regulatory profile requires depth Purview does not provide. It does not replace Purview; it layers on top of Microsoft 365 with deeper OpenText governance.
For general-market Microsoft 365 programs without deep regulated scope, Purview is usually sufficient. Merito's engagements assess Purview coverage first before recommending Content Cloud for Microsoft 365; over-buying governance tooling is as much a failure mode as under-buying.
Unified classification across Microsoft content and OpenText Content Management repositories is where the integration pays off most. Programs that already run Content Management get consistent policy across both environments without maintaining two classification schemes.
