Tricentis • Test automation
Tricentis Tosca is the most broadly deployed model-based enterprise test automation platform.
Module library architecture takes up the first month of a Tosca rollout, because it decides whether tests age well. Merito then automates the first wave, wires Azure DevOps, Jenkins or GitHub Actions and trains your QA team.
What it is
Tricentis Tosca is a model-based test automation platform that covers SAP (GUI, Fiori, SuccessFactors, Ariba, Concur, S/4HANA, ECC), Salesforce, Oracle, ServiceNow, Workday, web, mobile, API, and mainframe in one tool. Its defining feature is model-based authoring: tests describe what is being tested separately from how it is being tested, which reduces maintenance cost significantly when UIs change.
Tosca is also the engine under SAP Enterprise Continuous Testing (SAP ECT). SAP-dominant customers often buy the SAP-branded SAP ECT edition. Customers whose scope includes substantial non-SAP or who already hold Tricentis contracts buy standalone Tosca.
What determines whether Tosca succeeds is framework design, not license size. Merito's engagement starts with module library architecture and data orchestration in the first thirty days. That discipline is what keeps tests aging well.
Ideal use cases
What it is best at
SAP GUI, Fiori, Salesforce Lightning, Oracle EBS, ServiceNow, Workday, mainframe, web, mobile, API, and hundreds more. When automation crosses system boundaries, Tosca rarely has to hand off to another tool.
Tests reference modules, not scripts. When a UI changes, you update the module once. That is what makes Tosca footprints age better than script-based equivalents.
Deeply deployed in regulated industries including pharma, financial services, and energy. The product, certifications, and SAP integration have been stress-tested in real audit environments.
Core capabilities
Model-based authoring across enterprise and legacy technologies.
SAP automation engines
SAP-certified engines for S/4HANA, ECC, Fiori, SuccessFactors, Ariba, Concur.
Cross-application automation
End-to-end flows that span SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow, and custom web in a single test.
API and data testing
REST, SOAP, and message-based API testing with data-driven orchestration.
Mobile and mainframe
iOS and Android coverage plus 3270 and 5250 mainframe terminals in the same platform.
Tosca's model-based discipline is what separates sustainable automation from brittle scripts.
Module library
Reusable modules represent UI and API building blocks that tests compose against.
Data-driven orchestration
Parameterized test data, environment switching, and parallel execution without test duplication.
Risk-based testing
Score tests by business risk so regression runs cover the most critical paths first.
Tosca as the automation layer inside your release pipeline.
CI/CD triggers
Fire regression from Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and GitLab CI at pull request, merge, or release stages.
Distributed execution
Parallel execution across agents, cloud engines, and on-premise grids.
Test execution reporting
Pass, fail, and error reporting correlated back to business risk and release gates.

Merito point of view
A familiar pattern is a large Tricentis Tosca contract, a few hundred tests, and an automation footprint more expensive to maintain than the manual testing it replaced. That is a framework failure, not a tool failure. Tosca is model-based for a reason. If the module library and data orchestration are designed right, tests age well. If they are authored like scripts, they do not.
For SAP-dominant scope, Merito often recommends customers evaluate the SAP-branded SAP ECT edition instead of standalone Tosca. The engine is identical, and the difference is packaging and SAP alignment. For mixed or non-SAP-heavy scope, standalone Tosca is usually the right call.
Tosca plus qTest is the default starting bundle for enterprise customers. LiveCompare and NeoLoad come later as scope and maturity justify them.
